P4P evaluated the potential of tourism to support the MPAs and surrounding local communities. P4P created a roadmap to link tourism providers and MPAs in support conservation and provide a sustainable alternatives for local economic growth.
The objective of this project is to recommend appropriate sustainable tourism governance structures that will enable effective destination management. P4) conducted the analysis in 3 destinations in Honduras; Nicaragua; and Jamaica.
P4P was invited by COHERIT to take part in the Sustainable Heritage Endorsement Programme of the OAS. P4P developed the criteria that would serve as guidelines for the tourism industry and the destinations to implement practices that respect and preserve the cultural heritage of the region.
Ecotourism Ireland engaged P4P to train businesses interested in certification in three areas: understanding the value of certification; getting ready for certification; positioning a certified business in the market place. P4P delivers capacity building and training courses on and off-line.
Certifications are a mechanism to measure sustainability in tourism; however, they are often not aimed at smaller businesses, and the cost of undergoing a certification
